  • “Have a ceiling fan at home? Reverse it for this winter!”

When it’s the middle of winter and freezing, most of us aren’t thinking about turning on our ceiling fans. Majority of us resort to heaters, fireplace, and putting on a lot of layers. But did you know, reversing the direction of your ceiling fan can actually keep you warmer?

During the summer, ceiling fans are placed to rotate counterclockwise to push the cool air down to the floor. The cool air evaporates perspiration and creates a wind chill effect, making you feel cooler.

In the winter, ceiling fans should have their rotations reversed at a slow speed to bring the cool air up. This updraft pushes warm air back to the floor, making you feel warmer (heat rises). Most ceiling fans come with a toggle switch that reverses direction or a remote control. Press that button or pull that switch and you are ready for winter.
